THREE PATHS, ONE VISION

The Work

Why this matters now

Spiritual insight that does not change how we act has little to offer a burning world.

Mysticism is the heart of Andrew Harvey’s work. Across more than four decades of writing, translation and teaching, he has explored the world’s great mystical traditions as living paths, not distant ideas. Rumi, Kabir, Christ, the Divine Mother and the Buddha offer different ways into the same urgent question: how can a deeper encounter with reality change the way we live?

Three strands give this work its shape. Mysticism opens the inner life; Sacred Activism brings that awakening into service; Transformation asks how insight becomes practice. They belong together, while leaving room for each person to find a beginning through a poem, a book, a course or a journey.

01

Mysticism

The great traditions, for our time. Rumi, Christ, Tantra, the Divine Mother, Aurobindo and the Buddha: living entry points into a lifetime of scholarship and devotion.

Andrew’s scholarship and devotion move between traditions without treating them as interchangeable. His work on Rumi and Kabir attends to poetry as a living spiritual teaching. His exploration of Christ and Mary Magdalene turns towards radical transformation and the sacred feminine. Buddhist practice, including tonglen, brings compassion into the meeting with suffering.

His own path has taken him back to India, to the teachings of Bede Griffiths, to the Bodhisattva vows in Ladakh, and to Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. These encounters inform a body of work in which prayer, meditation and close attention are ways of meeting the world more completely. Explore the traditions, then follow the books and teachings that speak to your own questions.

02

Sacred Activism

When awakening becomes action. The inner life is not separate from the fate of the world; love must become a force for justice and protection of the earth.

Sacred Activism is one strand of this wider mystical work. Andrew describes a joining of deep spiritual practice with wise, compassionate action: neither an inward life that forgets the world nor action cut off from its spiritual ground. The Hope: A Guide to Sacred Activism gives this vision a practical expression.

The work asks for inner practice, an honest encounter with the shadow and the dark night, and love expressed through service. Its courses and resources address the global crisis alongside particular concerns such as homelessness and gun violence. Radical Regeneration, with Carolyn Baker, continues the inquiry into renewal. The invitation is not to turn away from pain, but to ask what compassion can become in action.

03

Transformation

Practices for a living future. Teachings, retreats and practices that turn insight into a way of living.

Transformation is where study meets the shape of a life. Andrew’s teachings range from recorded courses on Rumi, Kabir and the Christ path to guided practices and conversations. The course catalogue gathers these entry points in one place, with courses and audio programmes offered through Psyche & Co.

For those drawn to learning in a place, the retreats and pilgrimages bring teaching into contact with living traditions and sacred sites. The calendar sets out journeys, hosts and dates, clearly marking those still to be confirmed. One-to-one spiritual direction offers another way to deepen prayer and meditation through a personalised practice. Whether the beginning is quiet study or a journey, the question remains how to carry what is received into everyday life.
